Rendon Copyright © 2001 All Rights Reserved Banner advertising remains one of the most effective and cost efficient manners of gaining targeted responses to visit your web site. To benefit from this form of online advertising you must have a web page. It would also be preferable, though not essential, if the traffic to your web page is already established. The reason is that banner exchange programs base the number of times they display your banner on others web pages based on how many times their banners are viewed on your web page. And although a banner that belongs to someone else that is then displayed on your web site is like an exit for your visitor to leave, the positives far outweigh any possible negatives. Here are a few tips to improve your responses and increase your visibility via banners: 1. NEVER put a banner on your main entry page unless that banner is yours! When that banner is clicked it will take your visitor to another web page within your own site. It takes a great deal of very hard work to build a steady flow of traffic to your web site. After doing all that hard work, does it not seem foolish to allow your visitor to leave immediately? Especially if it is to someone else's web page? If you must have a banner on your entry page, make it your own banner that will take your visitor elsewhere within your own web site. Or make it to another web site but one that provides you with a commission. 2. Feel free to put the banners on several web pages as this will provide you with additional credits from your banner service exchange choice. 3. It is a good idea to put banners close to the top of the web page because the banner will load faster and thus insure that you get credit for its display. 4. If you have access or the ability to write HTML code on your web site, then make certain to include the WIDTH="" HEIGHT="" BORDER="" numbers as this allows images to load much faster. And while you are at it, include the ALT="" tag with a description of your banner that can then be viewed by those running with graphics turned off or by those, like the blind, that use text readers. 5. Do you have access to the web page that comes up within your own domain that shows whenever someone types the wrong URL or if one of your pages is down for updating? You know the page I mean, the "Not Found 404" page that displays by default. If you have access, place a banner or two on this page and increase your banner views immensely. The "Not Found 404" web page is often one of the most viewed pages within a given domain. 6. Have a banner with "Animation". Studies prove that results do increase by 26% or more over static banners. Most of the banner exchange programs will accept them so long as you keep within the total size limitations that they specify. 7. Quick load time is a must. That is why most Banner Exchanges hold their banners to a 7k maximum. People don't want to wait forever just to see what your banner has to written on it. 8. Your goal is for the viewer to CLICK on the banner! A short one or two lines should be more than enough to accomplish your goal. Keep it simply but compelling. 9. Studies prove that using the words "Click Here" work better than banners with the same message but without the call for the action of "Click Here". 10. Name recognition is great if you have it to get folks to click on a banner. But if you are like most people you will do better if you stir their curiosity to get them to come visit your not-so-well known business, etc. 11. If your URL or email is short and easy to remember, use it on the banner. Maybe they do not want to click and visit just then but will jot down the info for a future visit to your web site. 12. Test Your Banners. If one banner message or design is not performing then try another. Keep testing different lines of text and color combinations till you find the right mix for your individual situation. 13. Remember, banners with a combination of action phrases, such as Click Here, Submit, Press Here and graphic buttons to push are known to result in greater response. Before the Internet came along, the best way to gain any information was through the Library, encyclopedias at home, newspapers, radio, or TV. Now, with just the touch of a mouse, you can acquire more information on any subject than you ever could. Once you have started to narrow down your areas of interest, you will still find many E-zines that cover your interests. You will also begin to recognize some of the names that you see over and over, even in different E-zines, as authors of articles. With a well written article, the author has already started to develop subtle relationship with you. That is called "Name Recognition" and develops into "Credibility" for the author. With the Resource Box at the end of the article, the author is also receiving free publicity. Do you think that these authors are born-writers, best- seller authors, or unassailable up on their writing pedestal? Some are, but the majority are just like you and me. Are you aware that you, too, can write articles that can be included in E-zines? Everyone has an area of expertise. It may be what you do at work, a hobby you have, or what you do in your spare time. And you don't have to be an English Professor to write a well-received article. First, you must decide what your topic will be for the article. You will find that for the second step it is useful to go to the search engines and directories and find 4 or 5 related articles to your topic. This will help you to start organizing your thoughts. With so much information on the Internet, you will find this to be not as hard as you might think. Next, after you are just bursting to get started, it is time to put your thoughts on paper. It helps to write a rough draft about what you want to say and start to polish and flesh out the article. Remember, the three main ingredients to an article are; Introduction - The first two or three paragraphs should state what you are wanting to say, the problem you may be trying to solve for the reader, or anything that is related to the topic. This is just to get the flow of the article going. Body - This is where you attempt to solve the problem, explain what the topic is all about, or show your "How-to" expertise. Don't get carried away with just putting filler in your article. It is better to keep things short and sweet and still cover all the parts you want. Conclusion - The last part of the article is where you conclude your article. You can't just stop the flow of the article, you need to wind down to a natural type conclusion. A helpful hint; Stay on topic. Don't be talking about fishing and then switch over to your mother-in-law, unless it may be humorous story about your mother-in-law and fishing. The title of this article also includes how-to profit from your article and we will get into that now. Some of the E-zine articles that you read are really a low-grade sales letter. To start out it is best to avoid writing those types of articles, as many publishers are looking for content rich articles and not sales letters. The purpose of the article is to get your name known and build traffic to your website or subscribers for your own E-zine. So, you want as many publishers to use your article as possible. Now, you might be wondering, "Exactly, how can I profit from writing an article?" At the end of every article is a Resource Box that has your name and an actual Classified Ad for your website, product you may be selling, how to subscribe to your E-zine, and the list goes on and on. How to make a resource box is too much to cover in this article, so I have included a couple of samples to show you what you can do. Most publishers will only let the Resource Box contain 5-6 lines so keep it short. The first Resource Box is from Marty Foley, who is an Internet Marketing Expert in his own right with numerous articles and books related to marketing on the Internet. Find out how Marty Foley went from a wage slave in the rat race to successful Internet entrepreneur - working from a corner of his bedroom in his spare time - without spending a single penny on advertising.Click Here to Visit SiteThe next Resource Box is one that I use frequently.
